Preventing conflict through facilitating conversations

Facilitation

When people work together, whether in an office, on a volunteer board, or in a community setting, conflict almost inevitably arises.

The conflicts may be personal, they may be professional, or they may be philosophical, but they are almost always rooted in communication problems that can be improved by working with one of YuKan Conflict Resolution's Facilitators. You will find that bringing us in as an objective third party to do an assessment of the problems can be extremely beneficial as we can conduct an individualized conflict assessment.

Following the assessment, our Facilitators will prepare a report containing the results of the assessment, conclusions, and potential recommendations for the organization to consider. Recommendations might include one or more facilitated meetings, mediation, med-arb, and/or training for some or all of the parties involved. You will then be able to consider the assessment and decide which of the recommended actions, if any, should be pursued.

Benefits of hiring a Facilitator

There are a number of benefits to using facilitation skills in group settings.
  • Increase in motivation to support the decisions made because of their involvement in the process.
  • Group efforts usually produce better results than individual efforts.
  • Analyzing conflicts and group dynamics.
  • Team building exercises
  • Increased participation within the group increases productivity.
  • Staff are drawn on more as resources contributing to overall organizational success.
  • Opportunity to contribute and feel like an integral part of the team.
  • Responsibility for implementing decisions lies with everyone.
  • Innovation and problem-solving skills are built.
  • People are encouraged to think and act for the overall benefit of the group.
  • Higher-quality decisions may result.
  • A forum for constructively resolving conflicts and clarifying misunderstandings is created.
  • Low morale, lack of involvement, and withholding of information is less likely in a joint process.
